TABE'S BEST OF NOBUHIKO TAKADA VOL 2: 1983-88 (It's finally here! After years of promises and footage-gathering, I have completed work on the second volume of my Nobuhiko Takada compilation. Volume 1 covered Takada's top rivalries. This one chronicles his rise to prominence in the early part of his career, covering both of his New Japan tours and his run in the first UWF. You see Takada, the star-in-the-making youngster, grow into Takada, elite-level worker. All kinds of great matches to be found here, all in EX vq).
Nobuhiko Takada vs Athol Foley, 8/12/83 (Fun match from early in Takada's career. This one is actually from Calgary. Foley is Stephen Wright - Alex Wright's father.) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS YOSHIAKI YATSU, 4/19/84 (Excellent match from the end of Takada's first run in NJPW. Great stuff.) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS KAZUO YAMAZAKI, 12/5/84 (Often called a MOTY for 1984, this one is outstanding and shows just how advanced these two were, even early in their careers) Nobuhiko Takada vs Tiger Mask, 1/20/85 (HUGE upset as Takada kicks the crap out of Mask until the ref stops the match. Great stuff!) Nobuhiko Takada vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara, 7/8/85 (good match, but a bit strange in that there's tons of cheating in this one. Both guys take cheap shots on the break, refuse to break holds, etc. Seems out of place, even in the 1st UWF) Nobuhiko Takada vs Osamu Kido, 7/13/85 Nobuhiko Takada vs Satoru Sayama, 7/21/85 (Tiger Mask without the mask is always fun.) Nobuhiko Takada vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara, 9/2/85 (Terrific - Takada lay a beating on Fujiwara) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS SATORU SAYAMA, 9/6/85 (Another good one from the last days of the UWF.) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS KAZUO YAMAZAKI, 9/11/85 (Their 12/5/84 match is more famous, but this one is better. Fantastic match that has been criminally under-appreciated.) Nobuhiko Takada vs Akira Maeda, 1/3/86 (A seriously questionable piece of booking pits two of the UWF's top stars against each other less than a month into the UWF invasion.) Nobuhiko Takada & Osamu Kido vs Antonio Inoki & Keichi Yamada, 2/5/86 (Loads of talent in this match in front of a molten crowd. Great match.) 5 VS 5 ELIMINATION TAG, 3/26/86 (A classic! I would have liked this to have gone another 30 minutes, but this one is still great. The crowd is unbelievable for this one as well.) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS KEICHI YAMADA, 5/1/86 (Two of the best of all-time hook up - ****!) Nobuhiko Takada vs Seiji Sakaguchi, 5/1/86 (Takada's second match from a 5 vs 5 series) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS THE COBRA, 5/1/86 (Awesome match hurt only by a crappy finish.) Nobuhiko Takada vs Kazuo Yamazaki, 8/7/86 (More from this excellent feud). Nobuhiko Takada & Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Shiro Koshinaka & George Takano, 9/5/86 5 vs 5 Elimination Tag, 9/16/86 (Not as good as the 3/86 elimination match, but still good. Fun to see the UWF get a win for once.) Nobuhiko Takada & Shiro Koshinaka vs Akira Maeda & Osami Kido, 12/8/86 (Takada & Koshinaka are bitter enemies at this point, but are forced to team up. Fun stuff.) NOBUHIKO TAKADA & AKIRA MAEDA VS KEIJI MUTOH & SHIRO KOSHINAKA, 3/20/87 (The '87 IWGP Tag League finals. Great match!) NOBUHIKO TAKADA & AKIRA MAEDA VS KEIJI MUTOH & SHIRO KOSHINAKA, 3/26/87 (Rematch for the titles. Also a great match. ) Nobuhiko Takada & Akira Maeda vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara & Kazuo Yamazaki, 5/25/87 Nobuhiko Takada vs Kuniaki Kobayashi, 8/20/87 ('87 IWGP Jr title finals. Terrific match.) Nobuhiko Takada & Akira Maeda vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara & Kazuo Yamazaki, 9/1/87 (Bitter, vicious tag match that sees Fujiwara & Yamazaki dethrone the champs.) Nobuhiko Takada & Kazuo Yamazaki vs Keichi Yamada & Shiro Koshinaka, 10/25/87 Nobuhiko Takada vs Kazuo Yamazaki, 1/25/88 (Yet another great installment of this feud. Kazuo scores the upset!) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS SHIRO KOSHINAKA, 2/4/88 (Fabulous match, bad ending.) NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS HIRO HASE, 3/11/88 (Takada's last great match for New Japan. Good stuff.) Nobuhiko Takada & Kazuo Yamazaki vs Keichi Yamada & Masa Funaki, 3/14/88 (Funaki isn't yet great at this point, but this is still a fun one).
