TAPE 429

Quality: EX (*MASTER*)

Length: 2.75 hrs (DVD)

PRIDE 2 - 3/15/98 (The second Pride show, this is a much better one than the first, albeit with many of the same problems. Pride saw this one and enacted rules that would force the fighters to provide more action, which is definitely a good thing. This is the US version, with English commentary, and all fights complete. I've got a DVD master, so quality is basically perfect.)
Royler Gracie vs Naoki Sano (Sano, proving he learned from Takada, lays there and does nothing for 25 minutes. Royler, proving he's a Gracie, lets him just lay there. The action heats up after that, with the last 5 minutes being actually decent.) Akira Shoji vs Juan Mott Ralph White vs William Roosmalen (Kickboxing) Kazushi Sakuraba vs Vernon White (This is one of Sak's first NHB fights and it shows. He misses numerous openings in this fight and repeatedly leaves himself vulnerable. Fortunately for him, White sucks and gets horrible advice from his corner - they tell him to back off when he's got a reverse mount position - so Sak is able to pull off the win.) Renzo Gracie vs Sanae Kikuta (Even worse than the Royler/Sano fight above, this one has no time limit, so neither guy does a thing for the first 50 minutes of the fight. Then Renzo finally gets busy and ends it a minute later. Blech.) Tasis Petridis vs George Randolph (Kickboxing) Marco Ruas vs Gary Goodridge Mark Kerr vs Branco Cikatic (Cikatic follows up his cheapshot DQ from Pride 1 with even more flagrant cheating in this one. He nails Kerr with a bunch of elbows to the back of the head and holds the ropes constantly, thus getting himself DQ'ed, all the while looking like he has no idea why he's being booed.)
