TAPE 619

Length: 4.75 hrs (2 DVD)
NEW JAPAN G1 CLIMAX '92 (In 1992, after Ric Flair had been stripped of the NWA World title,
the title was revived and a tournament held to crown a new champion. New Japan rolled
the tournament into their annual G1 Climax tournament and the result is this outstanding
tape. Watch Mutoh and Chono in their primes, Rick Rude in the best year of his career,
and several other great stars. I've got a 1st gen convert so VQ is EX)
Masa Chono vs Tony Halme, 8/6/92
Barry Windham vs Keiji Mutoh, 8/6/92
Bam Bam Bigelow vs Scott Norton, 8/6/92 (Very bloody)
Steve Austin vs Arn Anderson, 8/6/92
Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs Osamu Nishimura & Koji Kanemoto, 8/11/92
CHRIS BENOIT VS JUSHIN LIGER, 8/12/92 (This is the match from which clips were shown on
WCWSN, leading to Liger becoming a star in the US. Great match.)
Terry Taylor vs Kensuke Sasaki, 8/10/92
Rick Rude vs Shinya Hashimoto, 8/10/92 (Rude had his working boots on throughout this
tourney, turning in a ***1/2 match here including an awesome top-rope DDT.)
Steve Austin vs Keiji Mutoh, 8/10/92
Masa Chono vs Scott Norton, 8/10/92
RICK & SCOTT STEINER VS KEIJI MUTOH & KENSUKE SASAKI, 8/10/92 (Excellent match)
Shiro Koshinaka & Kengo Kimura vs Shinya Hashimoto & Osamu Kido, 8/11/92 (The crowd
is super-hot for this one)
Rick Rude vs Kensuke Sasaki, 8/11/92
Masa Chono vs Keiji Mutoh, 8/11/92
RICK RUDE VS MASA CHONO, 8/12/92 (Finals - Chono wins NWA World title. Great match in
front of a molten crowd that concludes with a beautiful finishing sequence. Chono
uses his finishers from his previous matches in the tourney for false finishes and
the crowd goes NUTS. It's really well-done and tells a great story that Chono is
going to have do "just a little bit more" to win the Finals vs what he had to do
in earlier matches. Great booking and psychology.)
