BATTLARTS BATTLE FICTION - 11/23/98 (After a long search, I've finally acquired a high-quality
copy of this show. I'm a big Backlund fan, so this was a must-have. Fairly entertaining
tape, with a couple of good matches. Definitely worth having for the BattlArts fan.
I've got a 1st gen convert so VQ is EX, but just a tad washed out, color-wise.)
Masaki Mochizuki & Mach Junji vs Masaru Seno & Takashi Hijikata (clipped)
Taka Michinoku & Shoichi Funaki vs Minoru Fujita & Ikuto Hidaka (clipped)
Hayabusa vs Rey Buccanero (clipped)
Victor Kreuger & Carl Greco vs Masao Orihara & Takeshi Ono (clipped)
Minoru Tanaka vs Naohiro Hoshikawa (clipped)
Great Sasuke vs Victor Kreuger, 10/5/98 (clipped)
Hisakatsu Ohya vs Greg Valentine, 10/5/98 (clipped)
Bob Backlund vs Daisuke Ikeda, 10/5/98 (clipped)
Yuki Ishikawa vs Mitsuhiro Matsunaga, 10/5/98 (Gross match that sees Matsunaga just
carve the hell out of Ishikawa's arm)
Hisakatsu Ohya vs Yuki Ishikawa (JIP)
Bob Backlund vs Great Sasuke (Clipped - talk about your all-time style clashes! Sasuke
comes in drinking beer and smoking a cigar, working his heel SASUKE gimmick. He
then goes out and does his usual crazy outside-the-ring dives, including a Sasuke
Special, only to have Backlund miss catching him twice - once STEPPING ASIDE - so
that Sasuke takes a couple of really nasty bumps on the back of his head on the
concrete. Not good for someone who has fractured his skull before!)
Daisuke Ikeda vs Katsumi Usuda (complete)
Road Warriors vs Alexander Otsuka & Mohammed Yone (Complete - Otsuka does an incredible
dive from inside the ring over the corner post, only to have Hawk not catch him
so that he takes an incredible bump right on the concrete. NASTY.)
Bob Backlund vs Yuki Ishikawa (Complete - B-Cup finals - Very slow-paced match that
could have been so much more. It's obvious Ishikawa wants to do more, but he's
forced to slow down because of Backlund's overselling and bad timing. Then you've
got Backlund botching one of his trademark spots - the bridge into a backslide.
Bob's shoulders are down, so the ref starts to count but Bob fails to bridge out or
kick out, forcing the ref to stop at 2 when his shoulders are obviously still
down. Very bad looking. Decent match that sees Backlund submit!)
